Damp and Wet Mopping

▪ Mopping - When mopping, keep your back straight and choose lightweight equipment that will allow you to remain upright. Bend your knees – not your back. Hold the mop handle just below waist level with your dominant hand. Push and pull with that hand, using a horizontal figure-eight motion, steadying the mop with the other hand. Check your path frequently, moving backwards to avoid walking on the wet floor. Avoid extreme motions or twisting by cleaning small sections of the floor in a systematic pattern.
▪ Preparing and Using Mopping Solutions – Using mop buckets requires proper lifting techniques when filling and emptying to avoid injuries and spills. Always use the smallest amount of cleaning solutions possible. Use a hose or smaller bucket to fill a larger mop bucket. Keep your back straight, bend your knees, and keep the bucket close to your body as you lift it. Try to avoid twisting movements and bending at the waist. Keep arms and hands in positions that are not awkward and rest your bucket on the edge of the sink when emptying.
